Artist Bio
Artist Tom Janssen, working under the name Tom Jay, is a Latino artist originally from Guatemala and is a Mayan descent. A former College of Visual Arts and Minneapolis College of Art and Design student, he has developed a multidisciplinary artistic practice with a focus on murals, illustration and aerosol painting. Tom’s work spans large-scale private commissions and public art projects, often exploring themes of social justice, environmental preservation and street art. Deeply committed to his craft, he regularly collaborates on initiatives that merge with street art, education and collective creativity, using his work to inspire groups of all audiences and ages.
Creative Expertise
Throughout his career, Tom has worked extensively within collaborative and community-focused art environments. His experience includes graffiti education through SprayFinger, where he contributed to instructional programming and youth engagement. Tom has also supported community outreach efforts tied to mural production and has assisted fellow artists in the planning and execution of various mural productions. A significant portion of his professional background includes working with SprayFinger and City Mischief Murals, both Twin Cities-based organizations known for public art and collaborative mural work.
